Hi-Step? Trestle? or Wheeled Henchman?
Choose the right platform for your situation! You can straddle borders and step over shrubs, and other obstacles, with a Hi-Step or a Trestle. Both are very easy to manoevure. For wider hedges, the Hi Step provides you gurad rails to lean on. Wheeled Henchman models are best suited for longer lengths of hedge, where the access is clear. (It would not be suitable to wheel a Wheeled Henchman into prized flower beds! A long hedge becomes a road way for the longer Wheeled Henchman, and being perfectly balanced, they are easy to move.
Aluminium or Steel?
All Wheeled Henchman and Trestle platforms are made from galvanised steel. All Hi-Steps are available aluminium framed, and some in steel. See the indivual products for detailed specifications of each product.
Choosing the most suitable size platform -
First, measure the height of your highest hedge. Then decide your preferred height for reaching across the top of it.The easiest working height is at stomach level, say three feet. Chest height is pretty easy too at, say, four feet. Holding a power trimmer or chain saw at shoulder height, five feet, is your upper limit. Going above shoulder height can be dangerous as well as tiring. Subtracting your preferred working height from the height of your tallest hedge gives you the platform height required for this job – don’t forget to consider your other jobs! Note however that platforms’ maximum heights will decrease when legs are adjusted to cope with sloping ground.
Example: Your highest hedge is 10’. You can cut it at shoulder height, 5’. So you need to stand on a 5’ platform. We suggest the Wheeled 55 or 75 Henchman, or Hi-Step Midi if you’ve got shrubs or a border obstructing your access
